The Midtown Bright program, an annual holiday lights installation powered by Midtown Alliance, kicks off December 1 with more lights, more colors and more locations lighting up Peachtree Street during the holiday season.
“We want to make Peachtree glow during the holidays,” said Lauren Bohn, program manager for urban planning at Midtown Alliance whose efforts led to this year’s expanded offerings. Midtown is home to many of Atlanta’s favorite holiday traditions and events—The Nutcracker at the Fox Theatre, The Children's Healthcare of Atlanta parade, Garden Lights at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, just to name a few. “The goal of Midtown Bright is for that holiday spirit and activity to spill out into the streets,” Bohn said.
Now in its seventh year, Bohn said this year’s Midtown Bright installation is the largest ever, totaling an estimated 150,000 LED lights. The holiday light experience, which is already being installed, will expand at the intersections of 10th and 15th streets, in addition to light experiences at Pershing Point Plaza and Ponce Triangle.
A More Colorful Midtown
The biggest difference this year is the introduction of color. Fifty-six trees along Peachtree will be wrapped in single-tone LED strands in 10 different colors, mimicking the colorful Midtown branding and creating a Technicolor forest backdrop for the 12-point white stars. There are six more stars to see this year, ranging from 3.5 feet to 20 feet and will be wrapped in warm and cool white lights to create dimension and make a bigger visual impact.
Where and When to View the Lights
See if you can find all 12 stars by visiting the Peachtree intersections at 10th and 15th streets, Ponce Triangle, and Pershing Point Plaza.
