Midtown Pedestrian Mobility and Safety Improvements (Last Mile Intersections) Project

Project Overview

The City of Atlanta and Midtown Alliance have been awarded funding to install new traffic signals at several intersections and enhance pedestrian crossings at multiple other Midtown intersections as identified through project scoping and the Midtown Transportation Plan. The project will enhance connectivity and safety for people accessing MARTA rail stations and regional and local bus stops. Preliminary design is underway, including warrant studies for the proposed new signals and plans to restripe multiple intersections within the Midtown core to increase the visibility of pedestrian crossings focused between 17th Street and North Ave. 

Project Funding

  • $1.4M in Federal grant funds
  • $600,000 Midtown Improvement District funds
  • Total funding: $2M

Design/Engineering

Project scoping is complete. The Design and Engineering phase will include:

  • Public engagement
  • City and stakeholder coordination
  • Survey and subsurface evaluations for several signal locations
  • Develop preliminary and final design plans
  • Cost estimating
  • Develop construction permitting documents

What’s Next?

Design and Engineering will continue throughout 2018 into 2019.  Upon completion, the project is estimated to be bid for construction in 2019 with construction start shortly thereafter.  Please stay tuned for project updates!
