Details

The crowd-pleasing Jazz at All Saints’ Concert Series begins its second season with a performance by the dynamic young drummer Robert Boone, Jr., and his quartet on Friday evening, September 12. A Grammy Award winner, Boone is a featured artist with the Legendary Count Basie Orchestra and a member of the jazz faculty at Georgia State University. In addition to touring with the Basie Orchestra, he has performed at premier venues such as the Blue Note and Birdland and, closer to home, Spivey Hall and the Cobb Energy Centre. Boone is also a member of the band, The Boom! Trio, featuring vocal artist Lavahi, with whom he is creating original music.

For the September concert, Boone and his quartet will present “A Max Roach Centennial Celebration,” paying tribute to the legendary drummer and activist Max Roach, whose music shaped both jazz and social justice. Roach’s iconic We Insist! Freedom Now Suite was a powerful statement against injustice that has inspired generations of protest music.

The quartet takes the stage at 7:00 p.m. in the church on September 12. Their concert will be followed by a Q&A with the series founder, Virginia Schenck, and a reception with the artists in the Parish House. Concert tickets are $25/adult, $15/student, and $85/season. They can be purchased at allsaintsatlanta.org/jazz.
