Two Royal Swedish Opera Soloists. One Special Night in Atlanta.
Celebrate 30 years of Vasa Drängar with an evening of Swedish music, opera favorites, and outstanding guest performers at the beautiful Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Midtown Atlanta.
For this special anniversary concert, Vasa Drängar welcomes Marcus Jupither and Niklas Björling Rygert of the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm.
You’ll hear selections from La Bohème, Tosca and more — performed by Marcus and Niklas as soloists and together with Vasa Drängar.
The program ranges from powerful opera and beloved Swedish songs to lighter favorites, accompanied by an exceptional group of musicians.

Special Guests from the Royal Swedish Opera
Marcus Jupither is one of Sweden’s accomplished baritones, with a repertoire of more than 60 operatic roles. He has performed at all of Sweden’s major opera houses and on stages throughout Europe and the United States.
Opera also runs in his family. His father, Rolf Jupither, sang at the Royal Swedish Opera and was particularly known for his portrayal of Scarpia in Tosca — a role Marcus himself has gone on to perform.
Niklas Björling Rygert is one of Sweden’s leading character tenors and has been a member of the soloists’ ensemble at the Royal Swedish Opera since 1999.
He has performed more than 1,000 times in over 50 roles at the Royal Opera alone.
Niklas has sung Monostatos in Mozart’s The Magic Flute 117 times — more than any other singer at the Royal Swedish Opera since the theater opened in 1812.
His award-winning performance as Mime in Wagner’s Siegfried brought him international recognition and led to performances in Valencia under legendary conductor Zubin Mehta, as well as engagements throughout Europe and the United States.

More Than Opera
The evening will feature Vasa Drängar, conducted by Paula Fagerberg, who will also perform on harp.
Andrew Fazackerley’s trio will accompany the concert, with David Cooper on mandolin and balalaika and Sarah Hawbecker at the church’s magnificent organ.
Together, they will fill one of Atlanta’s beautiful historic churches with a program created especially for this anniversary celebration.

From Seven Singers to 30 Years
Vasa Drängar began in Atlanta in the spring of 1996.
A few members of the Nordic Lodge discovered that there might be enough men among them to form a Swedish men’s chorus. After asking around, they found seven singers.
They began practicing, liked what they heard, and offered to perform at the Nordic Lodge.
On September 14, 1996, Vasa Drängar gave its first performance at the Lodge’s annual crawfish dinner.
Thirty years later, we’re still singing.
This anniversary concert celebrates the music, friendships and Swedish traditions that have kept Vasa Drängar going for three decades — and the many people in Atlanta who have supported us along the way.
