An Evening with Joe Veazey and Gavin Guidry

As Atlanta reaches the final stretch of its FIFA World Cup moment, we’re asking a simple question: what does the Atlanta soccer world reveal about how a city is designed from the inside out?

Join designer Joe Veazey and cultural researcher Gavin Guidry for an evening around the Atlanta Soccer Map, a designed cultural artifact capturing the people, places, rituals, and stories that make up Atlanta’s soccer world—and, in turn, how the city itself comes into focus. They’ll share how the map was made and how design can surface the hidden networks that connect communities, especially during moments when a city is under the global spotlight.

Then we’ll shift from looking to making.

In a hands-on workshop, participants will sketch their own cultural maps, charting the communities they’re part of, from neighborhoods and faith groups to hobbies, fandoms, and everyday worlds.
