2026: A New Era for MARTA in Midtown
MARTA is getting an upgrade in 2026: tap-to-pay, new faregates, a new Breeze app, new railcars, and updated bus routes. Read on to discover how MARTA is making Midtown more connected than ever.
March 28: Better Breeze System Launches
MARTA’s new Better Breeze fare system goes live March 28, bringing upgraded fare gates, new vending machines, and expanded payment options.
Riders on all MARTA, Xpress, CobbLinc and Ride Gwinnett transit will be able to tap a credit/debit card or mobile wallet at fare gates, purchase a new Better Breeze card at stations, or use the updated Breeze mobile app.
Current silver Breeze cards will not be compatible with the new system. Any remaining fare should be used before May 2, when the old system will be turned off. Riders with fare in on a registered Breeze account will need to transfer funds to a new Better Breeze account.
These upgrades are designed to create a smoother, more reliable station experience for Midtown commuters.
April 18: NextGen Bus Routes Start Running
MARTA’s redesigned NextGen Bus Network goes live April 18, bringing more frequent service and stronger connections from Midtown to key destinations across the city.
With the new network, riders will have service every 15 minutes to West Midtown, every 10 minutes to Ponce City Market and the Old Fourth Ward, and every 20 minutes to Atlantic Station. All routes will operate seven days a week and unlock car-free options for commuting and everyday travel.
Summer 2026: New Rail Cars Hit the Track
You've seen glimpses, now get ready! MARTA will begin introducing its new CQ400 rail cars this summer.
These new trains feature modern interiors, improved rider comfort, and updated technology and safety features. This long-term investment modernizes the rail system and enhances the daily commute experience for Midtown riders.
