Kelly Taylor Mitchell

Kelly Taylor Mitchell is an Atlanta-based artist and educator who is currently a Assistant Professor of Art and Visual Culture at Spelman College. She has completed residencies at Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Minnesota Center for Book Arts, Women’s Studio Workshop and Atlanta Contemporary. Her work can be found in collections such as the Harvard Fine Arts Library, Bowdoin Special Collections, Smith College Special Collections and more.

Her practice encompasses orality and ancestral memory, both real and imagined, woven into the fabric of the Africana Diaspora. Her artistic process is ancestor worship, centering a reverence for spiritual technology and lineal craft. Familial oral histories function as a medium in her work, which is currently focused on ancestral ties in the American South.
