15th St Corridor Enhancements Project

Project Category: All Projects Bike + e-Scooter Facilities

Updated 5/12/2022

Project Overview

The lack of safe east/west routes in the northern part of Midtown for the growing number of people riding bikes, e-scooters, and other personal mobility options was identified in the Midtown Transportation Plan and the City’s Atlanta Transportation Plan.  Several new north/south bike facilities are planned in this area including Spring Street, West Peachtree Street, and Piedmont Avenue and an east/west connection is critical to developing a network of safe routes for micromobility users.

In partnership with the City, Midtown Alliance has engaged a consultant team to identify the best route to provide a safe LIT (light individual transport) facility and a concept that responds to the needs of users and area stakeholders.  This project will assess a micromobility connection between West Peachtree Street at 15th Street and the Piedmont Avenue at 15th Street intersection.  A safe and convenient connection will provide much needed access to Piedmont Park, Ansley Park, major employment centers, cultural and institutional centers and the Arts Center MARTA Station. The project could comprise a network of streets and facilities in addition to 15th Street, such as Arts Center Way, 16th Street, Peachtree Circle. By providing a connection from the future multi-use trail at Piedmont Ave and 15th Street to the protected bicycle facilities on the 15th Street extension, commuters, residents, and visitors will be able to bypass the 14th Street corridor.

What’s Next?

We continue to consult stakeholders to develop a design that will serve the needs of the Midtown community, today and into the future. To date, we have released an “existing conditions report” to identify 15th St as the preferred route, developed a concept for the corridor, and drafted 30% plans.  We will be moving forward with developing 60% and 90% plans in 2022.  Please stay tuned for project updates.
