3rd Street Multimodal Enhancements

Project Categories: All Projects Bike + e-Scooter Facilities Complete Streets Study Multi-Modal Physical Improvements

07/13/2025

Midtown Alliance is developing a plan to expand east-west multimodal connectivity in Midtown on 3rd Street between Piedmont Avenue west to the end of 3rd Street at the 3rd Street tunnel under I-75/85.

Pending future action by Georgia Tech, the 3rd Street tunnel may one day be reopened to provide a connection to bicycle and pedestrian facilities west of the interstate on Georgia Tech's campus. And as retail, housing, and commercial development expands along and around 3rd Street in Midtown, providing multiple modes of transportation has become increasingly important.

About the Project:

Bicycle lanes are currently available on the segment of 3rd Street between Peachtree and West Peachtree Streets. This new project proposes expanding the extents of the 3rd Street bike lanes, providing additional protection for cyclists and people using micromobility devices.

Public Engagement:

Midtown Alliance staff hosted a pop-up outdoor interactive public meeting in mid-July on the project corridor to get initial feedback on an early draft concept for extending the bike lanes on 3rd Street. Thank you to those who were able to attend and provide comments.
