Project Overview
Midtown Alliance and the City of Atlanta are implementing safety improvements for people navigating Spring Street and West Peachtree Street in Midtown.

In 2019, the Mayor’s Office announced a $5M plan to bring accelerated safety redesigns to several Atlanta streets. Improvements are coming to Spring Street (17th - 3rd St) and West Peachtree Street (Linden Ave - 17th St) in multiple phases that will add more options for people walking, cycling or using other mobility options.

Project Timeline
In early 2019, Midtown Alliance's project team began the scoping phase for more comprehensive "complete street" projects on both corridors. Following the Mayor's announcement, the scope of the project was reduced and the timeline accelerated. Midtown Alliance kicked off the Design and Engineering phase for the quick build project in late-2019. Following a restructured agreement, the City then assumed the responsibility to implement the improvements on Spring Street through a planned resurfacing project in 2020. The first phase of the Spring Street LIT Lane was completed in Q3 of 2021, with remaining phases of work on Spring and West Peachtree Streets beginning in 2026.
Public Engagement
The City of Atlanta, as part of the Mayor’s Action Plan for Safer Streets, hosted a public meeting with Midtown Alliance and Central Atlanta Progress in 2020. The meeting discussed safety improvements planned within Downtown and Midtown -- including the West Peachtree and Spring Street "Quick Build" Projects -- and the Piedmont Avenue Quick Build Complete Street project (Ralph McGill Blvd to Ponce de Leon Ave) managed by Central Atlanta Progress.
