Midtown Alliance News Center Story Submission Guidelines
Midtown Alliance is currently seeking new contributors and original story ideas that strengthen the bonds between people and place. Our publications cover news and features about the personalities, programs, partnerships and projects that are making significant contributions to Midtown Atlanta and our city.
Our communications platform includes a range of digital channels, events and other vehicles that reach tens of thousands of people with a relationship to Midtown Atlanta, from business leaders and daytime workers to local residents and visitors as well as non-local readers. They’re smart, enthusiastic about Midtown’s public realm and curious about what makes the district unique.
We encourage subject matter experts, writers and multimedia journalists of all backgrounds, and at all levels of their careers, to review our submission guidelines and consider sharing their ideas and knowledge with our viewership.
Publishing Guide:
We are looking to publish interesting and original stories that relate geographically to Midtown Atlanta and align with our organization’s mission to create an exceptional urban experience. Our marketing and communications staff evaluates submissions with these questions in mind:
- Does your idea tell a story about something that happened in Midtown, past or present?
- Is the story angle new, or does it offer a new perspective?
- Is the article inclusive and open to a broad public audience?
- Does it include multiple sources and compelling real world examples?
- Would the story be interesting to many Midtown Atlanta stakeholders?
- Is the author trying to inform readers or merely to sell something to them?
- Does the pitch include compelling visuals that add to the story, including, but not limited to photos, videos, illustrations or graphics?

- Local Community Issues (i.e. homelessness, affordable housing)

Compensation and Recognition for Published Works
Midtown Alliance contracts for freelance writers are structured as work for hire and compensation terms are agreed upon upfront. Contributors are required to submit a W9 and may be asked for additional documentation to facilitate billing. Midtown Alliance story submissions are bylined with the contributor’s name and a short bio.
Fact Verification and Editorial Direction
Authors are responsible for verifying all facts, including dates of events and spelling of proper names and titles, and should submit backup information in a file if requested. Midtown Alliance staff have the final decision-making authority on editing stories, selecting publication date, creating and selecting headlines, illustrations, hyperlinks and other complementary content.
Originality, Copyright, Republishing and Conflicts of Interest
Midtown Alliance asks all authors to verify that their article has not appeared in another outlet and that they will not submit it to another publication unless we decline to publish it. Upon agreeing to publish an article, we require that authors transfer exclusive copyright for the article. Midtown Alliance does not permit the reproduction of its articles on other platforms unless agreed upon and defined in a separate contract. To make clear any potential conflicts of interest, please notify us about any financial or other relationships you may have with companies or organizations featured in your proposed article.

If Midtown Alliance is interested in our article proposal, we will reach out to you. We may request an article draft in some cases before making a final decision on whether to publish the article or not. If a submission is accepted, our editor may work with you to edit and/or rewrite a draft to ensure it appeals to MidtownATL platform readers. Our goal is to respond to all submissions in a timely manner.
