Live music has returned to Arts District Plaza with a new concert series featuring local musical talent of various genres.

In partnership with concert promotion and talent booking company Zero Mile, Midtown Alliance will introduce the Atlanta Songwriter Series in the plaza at 15th and Peachtree on Tuesday, September 6.

This series follows our successful Jazz on the Plaza series from earlier this summer, when Midtown welcomed four jazz artists and groups to perform in the newly unveiled plaza. For this series, Midtown Alliance partnered with Zero Mile, the talent buyer for Variety Playhouse, Terminal West and Georgia Theatre, to curate an eclectic lineup of local musicians with genres like piano pop, funky jazz and soul.

“For the Atlanta Songwriter Series, we focused on written word and song,” said Kyle Miller, a talent buyer for Zero Mile. “I tried to book artists across the handful of genres and find a way to represent Atlanta in a four-part series.”

The songwriter series will take place on the following Tuesdays: September 6, September 13, September 27 and October 11. Each event is free and takes place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The series was scheduled to kick off on August 30 but, due to rain, the first performance was rescheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 6.

Here is the series’ upcoming lineup:

  • September 6: Austin Miller, an Americana/folk songwriter whose inspirations include Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan.
  • September 13:  The Family Recipe - A four-piece instrumental fusion group with genre influences ranging from bluegrass to rock. The Family Recipe focuses on improvisation and innovating the music, bringing new energy and emotions to the stage every time they play.
  • September 27: Ruby Velle - A Billboard-charting artist who is shaping the hearts and minds of the public with her words of empowerment. Velle is the frontwoman to the band “Ruby Velle & the Soulphonics,” which released its sophomore album “State of All Things” to industry acclaim and a fan base championing their indie/DIY mentality.
  • October 11: The Four Fathers - a funky soul organ quartet.

On select dates, attendees can enjoy amenities and diversions such as free cotton candy from Viva La Flossy. The final event on October 11 will be in partnership with Biketober, a citywide challenge that encourages people to ride their bike instead of driving to win prizes.

“We are excited to provide another reason for the community to gather together in one of our public spaces and enjoy local music for free,” said Ansley Whipple, Midtown Alliance’s Events and Programming Project Manager. “Music is something that makes Atlanta a great city, so it is only fitting that we bring more of it to our plazas for everyone to enjoy.”
