January 2021 DRC Recap: Promenade Site Improvements Get Green Light

Published: 01/13/21

The Midtown DRC began 2021 with a presentation by Cousins Properties for improvements to its Promenade building, located at 1230 Peachtree Street.

About the Project

Built in 1990, the 38-story Promenade tower is part of a mixed-use development on 12 acres. The Promenade site encompasses three distinct outdoor plazas that will be updated with new landscape and hardscape improvements.

Here are some details about the project:

  • The “Stealth Plaza” (fronting along 15th Street.), which contains a 33-foot tall concrete sculpture by Tristan Al-Haddad, will be softened with added greenery including turf and trees along with a new canopy attached to the building and a walk-up coffee window.
  • The “Vault Plaza” (also fronting 15th St.) will feature a rebuilt walkway with two levels connecting the building to the parking deck.
  • The “Rear Garden’” includes new landscaping and hardscaping, along with a new seat wall and outdoor seating area that serves a café space inside the building.

DRC Recommendations

The DRC applauded the overall proposal, noting key improvements such the expanded landscape areas, new trees, and new bike room accessible from 15th St.
