SCAD HoneyBees Set to Perform Holiday Hits at Arts District Plaza

Published: 12/01/22

We’re buzzing with excitement about an upcoming holiday outdoor event happening in Midtown! Bring your whole family, some cozy hats and mittens and join us next week for Holidays with the Honeybees.

The SCAD HoneyBees, the university’s elite alumni vocal ensemble, is set to perform at Arts District Plaza from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 7. Gather with us at 5:00 p.m. for a free hot chocolate bar, a visit from Santa, Midtown swag and holiday cheer.

Applauded for their range and diverse songbook, the HoneyBees are a favorite of luxury hotels, resorts, private clubs and theaters across the Southeast. Members of the group include:

  • Angel Gabriel Chiclana: a singer/songwriter from Puerto Rico and a SCAD sound design graduate.
  • Miranda Dyer: A Tennessee native who can recently be seen in Hulu’s The Girl from Plainville and on Kandi Steiner’s audiobook Blind Side.
  • Grace Lawell: an actor and singer from Maryland who has appeared in Netflix’s Cobra Kai, The CW’s Strike Her Dead and more.
  • Candice Glover: A pop, R&B, and soul artist who was crowned the 12th season winner of American Idol.
  • Danielle Smart: A singer and Georgia native who earned her undergraduate degree from Savannah State University, where she was the lead soloist in its concert chorale. Smart attended SCAD as a graduate student.
  • Terrence Williams Jr.: A singer, actor, performer whose solo performance of “birds” from the original cast album of Ultimate Storytime has more than 6.5 million streams on Spotify.

Since graduating over the last few years from SCAD’s Savannah campus, where some  performed as members of the undergraduate “Bee Sharp” singing ensemble, the group has made appearances at many locations across Atlanta, including the Atlanta Botanical Garden, the Atlanta History Center and the InterContinental Buckhead Hotel. They also recently performed at SCAD’s campus in Lacoste, France, where they participated in a memorial event for fashion luminary Andre Leon Talley.

The holidays are the ensemble’s busiest season, with songs uniquely selected to fit each venue’s theme and crowd.

“Our performance at Arts District Plaza will be Christmas heavy, and the biggest thing for us is to make it as welcoming and family friendly as possible for people passing by,” said Williams. “We’ll have some ballads like ‘Mary Did You Know,’ but also some upbeat new Christmas classics.”

"'Tis the season for cheer, joy, and generosity!” said SCAD president and founder Paula Wallace. "SCAD delights in partnering with Midtown Alliance to bring season's greetings to our neighbors and friends with 'Holidays with the HoneyBees,' an exuberant stage performance showcasing everyone's favorite holiday hits. Our globally renowned alumni quintet will warm your heart, kindle your imagination, and bring a little magic to your holiday season. See you there!”
