Thriving Offices: Co-Working Spaces a hit in Midtown

WeWork Colony Square

Midtown Atlanta is home to approximately 70,000 daytime workers … and counting. To accommodate workforce growth in the district, developers have delivered a whopping 23 office buildings in the past 15 years. And while these Midtown office buildings attract many traditional companies, some young companies and entrepreneurs are looking for alternatives to traditional office arrangements as they grow and scale their businesses.  To this end, co-working spaces have been popping up all over the Atlanta market, with more than 500,000SF of co-working space in metro Atlanta, of which 150,000+SF located in the core of Midtown.

Midtown currently boasts eight co-working spaces that offer amenities like flexible meeting space, sponsored lunch-and-learns, networking opportunities with other members, and 24/7 access to their office.

WeWork Colony Square is the most recent addition to the district. Founded in New York, WeWork reigns as one of the largest co-working companies in the country and welcomed its first members in Midtown in June 2017.

“WeWork’s mission is to help people make a life, not just a living,” said Adam Wacenske, General Manager of WeWork’s Southern Region. “One way we do this is by providing a beautiful and collaborative workspace in areas where people live, work and play.”

WeWork Colony Square currently occupies 3 floors in Colony Square with 1,000 desks available on a daily or monthly basis.

“Our members represent a diverse array of industries, so it makes sense to open a location in such a dynamic community like Midtown where members can enjoy a vibrant art scene, entertainment district, restaurants, and diverse cultural offerings,” Wacenske said.

Co-working spaces open their doors in cities where they see strong growth in the market – and Midtown is a prime example of that movement. Within weeks of opening their doors in Colony Square, WeWork has announced a second Midtown location at 1372 Peachtree Street.

Co-working Space at Street Level

Joining Midtown’s current list of co-working spaces is Spaces, located at the newly renovated 715 Peachtree Street building. Unlike other co-working offices, Spaces offers flexible work amenities out of a converted storefront space. 715 Peachtree’s major renovations resulted in Spaces securing half of the building’s first floor and neighbors Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee, Bareburger, and Summit Mountain – a rock climbing gym located in the basement of the building.  Having direct access to these retailers adjacent to this coworking space will likely be a significant draw for incoming entrepreneurs and talent looking to caffeinate or blow off some steam.
