Spring is the perfect season in Atlanta for getting outside—whether it’s at lunchtime, after work, or on the weekends with your kids. And it’s easier than ever to have fun without spending a buck in Midtown this season—with options to walk, bike, scooter, or ride transit. Here is a curated list of free things to do this season in Midtown—and how you can get there without a car.
Midtown Alliance and Atlanta History Center: Lunchbox Entertainment Series
When: Thursday, Apr 18 + April 25 + May 2, 11:30am - 1:30pm Where: The Margaret Mitchell House, 990 Peachtree St What: Come to the front lawn of the Atlanta History Center's Midtown campus for Midtown Alliance's Lunch Box Entertainment Series. Hang out, meet fellow Midtown workers and residents while enjoying lunch and entertainment. Enjoy a special lunch for purchase from local favorite Empire State South or BYO. Attendees get a free soft drink and souvenir cup with lunch purchase. Pre-orders can be placed here before 4PM on Wednesday. More info here. Entertainment:

Wine and Cheese Night at Whole Foods Market Midtown
When: Monday April 22 + Monday April 29, 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM Where: 22 14th St NW What: Whole Foods Market Midtown is hosting a weekly Wine & Cheese night. Come and sample a variety of cheeses paired with just the right wine to bring out their flavor and richness. This free tasting will be held in the 14th Street Bar at the new Midtown store. Advance registration is required here. How to get there: It’s less than a ten minute walk from either the Midtown MARTA Station or the Arts Center MARTA Station. You can also ride MARTA Bus 14 a few minutes from the Midtown MARTA Station. Alternatively, bike or ride a scooter from either the Midtown MARTA Station or the Arts Center MARTA Station.

Georgia Tech Rock/Pop Ensemble Lawn Show
When: Saturday April 27, 2019, 8:30-9:00pm Where: West Village Lawn, 532 8th St NW (The actual show is on the lawn, which is easily visible to anyone when they reach the building.) What: Three rock bands will play selections of 70s and 90s rock on the West Village lawn. Come enjoy some quality spring weather and classic rock! More info here. How to get there: Take MARTA Bus 12 from Midtown MARTA Station. Get off at the West Village stop, which located on the corner of 10th street and Hemphill Avenue. Or bike or take a scooter just a few minutes from the Midtown MARTA Station.

Posman Books: Drag Queen Story Hour
When: Sunday April 28, 3-4 p.m. Where: Ponce City Market, 675 Ponce De Leon Ave NE What: Stop by Posman Books at Ponce City Market and enjoy our monthly Drag Queen Story Hour! The hostess this month, Brent Star, is a larger than life Drag Queen who will read to children and lighten up your Sunday. All ages are welcome to come and enjoy a few books and a lot of laughs. More info here. How to get there: Catch the MARTA Bus 102 or 2 from the North Avenue MARTA Station. You can also bike or scooter from there. Alternatively, coming from the heart of Midtown, enjoy a bike ride or walk through Piedmont Park and down the Beltline to Ponce City Market.

MODA (Museum of Design Atlanta) Design Club Day: Design Your Cause
When: Sunday May 12, noon-6 p.m. Where: 1315 Peachtree St. NE What: Design your own paper button championing an issue related to social justice, human rights, or environmental efforts. Using cardstock, felt, and markers, try your hand at persuasive writing and create the perfect call to action. Be inspired and design your own unique font that speaks to your cause. When you’re finished, pin your button on and strike up a conversation. We recommend you register in advance. More info here. How to get there: From the Arts Center MARTA Station, MODA is a short walk or bike/scooter ride away. You can also take a short bus ride on MARTA Bus 110 from the Arts Center MARTA Station.

Atlanta Jazz Festival
When: Memorial Day Weekend, May 25-26 ,11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Where: Piedmont Park What: The Atlanta Jazz Festival is regarded as one of the largest free jazz festivals in the country. An annual celebration of the music, culture and art of jazz begins in April and culminates each Memorial Day weekend, with an outdoor festival in Atlanta’s Piedmont Park, featuring jazz artists from all over the world. Since its inception, the festival has been free to the public. More info here. How to get there: From Midtown MARTA station, walk about 20 minutes to take a bike or scooter just a few minutes to Piedmont Park.
