Atlanta Police Department Lieutenant Terry Joyner has been named Commander at APD’s Midtown Precinct. The precinct plays a vital role in fighting crime and keep Midtown as safe as possible for people to live, work and play. Crime has steadily declined in this area over the past several years, made possible through a longstanding collaborative effort between public safety agencies and the Midtown community.

Lt. Joyner has served in the Atlanta Police Department for more than 26 years and has worked with Midtown Blue for 16 years. Joyner has enjoyed an active and productive career as a patrolman, a detective in APD’s Burglary and Homicide units, Major Fraud, Mortgage Fraud and ID theft as well being assigned as the Commander for the Fugitive Task Force. Most recently he was assigned as the Lieutenant for the Atlanta Underground Precinct prior to taking over at the Midtown Precinct.

Lt. Joyner obtained his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Georgia State University and is a certified firearms instructor. He received the Meritorious Service Award for saving the life of a suspect who was arrested for shooting a fellow state law enforcement officer. Lt. Joyner was named the APD Zone 5 Officer of the Year and received the agency’s Medal of Honor for pulling citizens out of a house fire for which Joyner himself was hospitalized for smoke inhalation.

“We are excited to welcome Lt. Joyner to his new role and are grateful for his distinguished service to the citizens of Atlanta," said Midtown Alliance President and CEO Kevin Green. “It is an honor to have him at APD’s Midtown Precinct and we look forward to continuing our strong partnership with APD.”
